Cosmetic Packaging: How to Choose a Lip Gloss Tube or Cosmetic Tube for Your DIY Beauty Project

Looking for packaging for your own DIY lip gloss, liquid lipstick or liquid and cream cosmetic formulas?

TKB Trading not only provides hundreds of colors and high-end raw materials, but beautiful packaging as well!

First, let’s take a look at cosmetic tube sizes.

TKB currently offers lip gloss and cosmetic tubes in the following sizes:

Most name brand lip glosses are sold in 5ml or smaller, so you may want to consider how long the shelf life of your formula is and how often you would use the product.

Don’t think you would finish using a 15ml lip gloss before it expires? Opt for a smaller pack size.

Next, let’s consider the standard shapes of cosmetic tube packaging.

The main types of cosmetic tube packaging currently available on tkbtrading.com are:

Most popular, lightweight and cost-friendly option for a classic squeezie, no-wand application. Varies by size, applicator tip and shape of cap.

Commonly used for lip gloss, liquid lipstick and liquid or cream concealer formulas. The slim design makes storage in your vanity or make up bag easy. TKB cylinder cosmetic tubes are available in silver or gold.

Commonly used for lip gloss, liquid lipstick and liquid eyeshadow formulas. The square packaging prevents rolling off a table top and feels a little heavier and luxurious as a final product. TKB square cosmetic tubes are available in different styles and with different shapes of soft wand applicator tips.

Other things to consider when shopping for cosmetic tube packaging:

  • Viscosity of your formula. Thin, “watery” formulas like lip oils will probably leak out of squeezie tubes but perform fine with most types of wand packaging.
  • Width of mouth/opening of the tube. The mouth size, or opening width of your tube can sometimes make filling more or less challenging, depending on your filling technique.

  • Finally, consider including a shrink band seal around your finished product. Shrink bands provide a more professional, hygienic appearance. Additionally, shrink bands keep the product safe from turning into yet another "tester".
